Standing Up to Tyranny

I haven’t written since my return from Kenya. In addition to jet lag and plentiful deep emotions about my amazing and positive experiences there, I have been puzzling over and lamenting and stunned by the state of our nation.

Each day I walk up (and wake up) to more outrageous behavior by T or EM or JDV and the seeming support for them from all corners. Hard to fathom. Hard to process. Yes, the minions are following their leaders best as I can tell and welcoming the slash and burn mentality. Yup. Lots of followers. Plentiful followers.

Add in bad behavior by neighbors (that’s plural), I’m stunned. Who bangs a broom on their ceiling to get silence from an upstairs neighbor rather than politely calling or texting or emailing? Seriously folks, people who know better are acting badly.

What accounts for intentional bad behavior toward others?

But, I saw a wee light this morning amidst the fierce wind in the sky (literal and figurative). I read the comments of Senior US District Court Judge Howell in the context of a hearing on the firing of a federal official in NLRB. The Judge questioned the idea of America being ruled by a King, a monarchy. Actually, it is two kings (T and EM, the latter of whom was not voted into office) and a squire, JDV.

NB: Article 3 judges have life tenure, at least for now.

Can we rely on federal and state courts to right the wrongs of the current so called Kings? I have my doubts about the Supremes, the final arbiter, always prone to a form of politics that is expressed (hidden or not so hidden) in their judicial philosophies (that is not new observation and I wrote about it decades ago).

But, is the law strong enough to withstand efforts to bend it into oblivion? Perhaps. When you can find hope in as amorphous a word as “perhaps,” that’s a step forward in today’s saga.

My amazing, smart, thoughtful friend CL was worried about me and sent me yellow tulips. (Look up their symbolism.) They now grace my home, messaging the arrival of Spring and hope and growth and new beginnings.

And she added in: breathe. I’m trying.
