Breach of Trust: Truth Matters
I get politics. I get that folks disagree about the economy and education and the environment (the big E’s). But, when it comes to the dangers accompanying natural disasters (Helene and now Milton), there is NO PLACE for lies and lying.
When lives are at stake and fear already abounds, one candidate and his running mate (the T and V team) are making a natural disaster into a political issue by telling untruths about the FEMA response, by slamming both Biden and Harris as if they actually caused the disasters, and by instilling fear beyond that which already exists. Don’t get me started on with T did well handling natural disasters in his time as president.
This is beyond disgusting. It is immoral. It is irresponsible. It is evidence of politics gone wrong. Way wrong.
I worry about schools and teachers and students. What can we do to help? Indeed, isn’t that the question we all should be asking? The rhetoric of T and V isn’t about helping; it is hurting. Why aren’t they saying: “What can we do to help?”
I can’t abide by a candidate and running mate who take advantage of a tragedy. Who does that?
Wait, I know the answer: T and V.
