Art and Doing Good
I live in the remarkable art colony referenced above, and my work is appearing in this show. I am delighted I can sell my art to do good and help those in LA in a small way. And, for the record, I haven’t decided which of my works to show. For those nearby, I am gallery sitting on Sunday the 9th from 11 — 1.
Two other points:
(1) Typically, I don’t sell my non- photographic art. Long story as to why. But I do give it away with regularity and I do donate it to local auctions/events. And now I get to sell it with the bulk of any proceeds going to help artists damaged by the LA fires. I plan to price to sell.
(2) Recently, I have experienced yet again folks who actually don’t believe in kindness and question those of us who work to improve the lives of others. “Stay in your lane” sums up the dissenters. My questions to those who judge my/our giving back and concern for others are these: Why are you not doing more for others? And why is your lane so narrow? I’d add in and I know this to be true: Kindness and giving to those in need are good for your mental and physical health.
Onward. This show sums up this phrase: Art is activism. I have a hat from the Women’s Museum in DC that I bought with my friend CMB that says just that, shown below. This upcoming show in Rocky Neck exemplifies those hat sentiments well. Maybe I’ll wear my hat as I gallery sit.
